Farmhouse Cottage Style – Cool Barn House

This unusual layered farmhouse cottage style is weathered and wonderful – in fact, that’s its charm! This barn house designed by San Francisco-based CCS Architecture is actually two buildings, one roof overlapping the other at staggered heights. Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, the worn, weather-beaten facade features multi-colored timber boards – repurposed from a barn – offering visual variety to this massive structure and topped by two perpendicular Corten roofs. Measuring 2,800 sq. ft., the interior features a natural palette of concrete floors, wood, stone, and steel. One “arm” of the structure is designated as sleeping quarters, and the other as living areas. Expansive, uninterrupted sliding glass doors open onto a yard and offer 32-ft.-wide panoramic views. Although it looks rustic, this mountain farmhouse is certainly not modest. You’ll find two guest cabins, a swimming pool, archery range and sauna. CCS Architecture
