Created for Fendi in a continued collaboration by French designer Maria Pergay, Chaise Lion combines the leather and fur that is a trademark of Fendi designs with Maria's favorite material of Stainless Steel. The opposing materials come together in Chaise Lion to create a chair that is both hot and cold, soft and hard, as well as natural and man made. This conflict of materials is the basis behind the story of Chaise Lion, which takes its muse from the metaphorical passage of time. Time has gone both forward and parallel via the manipulation of materials in complete contradiction for a final result of relaxed tension - hence chaise and lion.
Even the two sides of the chaise are in opposition to each other, one side is covered in luxurious fur for a cozy warm hug while the other sports a dramatic animal skin for those days when warmth is not required. The Chaise Lion is as much a chair of all seasons as it is a chair transcending time.
Maria Pergay began her career as a shop window designer in Paris before exploring the world of furniture and the influence of Parisian display design can clearly be seen in Chaise Lion, not just through the contrasting material elements but also in the golden lion feet and the "draped" Stainless Steel" framework. Maria's Chaise Lion is a piece of furniture that is meant to be displayed.
