New Zealand-based firm Design Mobel knows its outdoor lounging gear! The contemporary Float outdoor canopy bed hails from the firm’s annual “challenging how we sleep” project, which calls on innovative New Zealand designers to redefine the concept of the bed. Designer David Trubridge created the fun, functional and fit design for Float. “I forgot about beds and tried to think about sleep,” he says. “I asked lots of people what ‘sleep’ meant to them. Invariably the answers contained words like ‘floating,’ ‘cozy,’ ‘romantic,’ ‘rocking,’ ‘trusting.’ My design thoughts started with these feelings.” The result is a chic outdoor bed design that cocoons and comforts, all the while looking totally cool and contemporary. This elegant, dreamy outdoor canopy bed is hand-crafted from locally harvested Totara wood, which is water-resistant, making this piece ideal for both outdoors and in.
